Hours of scrolling on Insta and Pinterest can soon have you feeling like you have to throw the most extravagant party for your little one’s special day. The detailed themes, extravagant cakes and unique activities can very quickly add up. We’re here to tell you that it is absolutely possible to throw a great party, that your kid and their friends will love, without a millionaires budget.
Go Digital
Don’t waste your precious kids party budget on paper invitations which will likely end up at the bottom of someone’s school bag. Keep it simple and affordable with free e-vites. The bonus is, it goes directly to the parent, so getting an RSVP shouldn’t be too difficult.
Keep The Food Simple
They’re children, they don’t have high expectations when it comes to their dining options. In fact, they seem to always go for the effortless and simple options anyway (did someone say ham and cheese sandwiches?) – so keep it simple when it comes to food and check out our Top 10 Kids Party Foods post for inspo!
Pair up with another child
We know that this might not always be possible, but if it is, get on that train! That way, the cost of entertainment, decorations and food can be split between two families, making things much more affordable. Just make sure you get two cakes, here we speak from experience!
Avoid party stores
Going to party stores is a sure fire way to pay a premium on your kids birthday party. They see you coming from a mile away, so avoid them at all costs. Instead, opt for shopping online, it’s more convenient and you can shop around and compare prices. Online party supplies is a trusted favourite and of course, if you have some extra time, Amazon!
Cake is Cake
The amount of times we’ve seen kids completely unimpressed by elaborate cakes is too damn high. They’re just happy it’s cake and they’re allowed to eat it before lunch! Don’t pay hundreds of dollars for an extravagant theme cake that will more than likely end up smeared on your floor. Instead, we recommend a packet mix or a store bought sponge, covered in the most colourful sprinkles and m&m’s
Timing is everything
The time of day you host a party is a huge factor in how much food you need to supply for your guests. You guessed it, lunch and dinner time is always going to be more demanding and more expensive that earlier in the day. Mid-morning or mid-afternoon is the magic spot as light snacks and simple food will do the trick!
Keep the entertainment simple
Once again, we repeat, kids are very easily impressed and also very easily distracted. Blowing your entire budget on entertainment they may tune out of after 10 minutes can be frustrating. Free, timeless games that we all know and love? Priceless! Here’s a list of some all-time favs!
- Musical Chairs
- Duck, Duck, Goose
- Hot Potato
- Three-Legged Race
- Freeze Dance
- Freeze tag
- Simon Says
- Charades
There really isn’t a need to spend a fortune on a kids party, it can still be fabulous on a budget, and it should definitely never stress you out or break the bank. If you have any budget party ideas to share, we would love to hear them!
